Very happy with this product.Quality and performance have both been great. The mattress is not the thick type of futon that people might wrongly expect - it is about 3" thick and of a firm nature. I have used it for 2 months. I adjusted very quickly to it. My previous mattress was too soft and I usually woke up with back ache. On this, I tended to move around less and wake up without the back ache. It's inert feeling which I really like.The tatami mat may provide some additional comfort but I think it's more to get you off the ground a little and to let the mattress breathe a little. It did smell of rushes but I liked the smell and it was not strong or a problem at all.The mattress has no removable cover. It looks nice but I thought it best to put a cover on it before use to make it easier to keep it clean. I used a double duvet cover which I folded over underneath it. The mattress and tatami are slightly longer and wider than a standard single bed - so you need the larger cover to accommodate the additional length and width.It does not fold up particularly small - but that is unavoidable with the mattress being substantial.It will be a good guest bed/sleepover bed and probably good for a place where space is limited and a bed may need to be folded up each day. I folded it each day and it takes no time at all.
