Q: Does this unit record stereo (2 channel) MP3s from stereo cassettes, using Audacity as the sound program?

Windows controls whether you get mono (in "both" channels) or stereo. With the deck connected via USB, open Control Panel, Sound, pick your input, and set Windows to use 44.1kHz sampling 16-bit 2 channels. (USB defaults to 1 channel, but this is where you change it.)

Q: Does this have a "seek" function? I want to FF thru blank sections & stop at any audio on the tape. I'm archiving amateur cassettes w/o track info.

Unfortunately, this tape deck model doesn't have the seek function. I've seen Sony tape decks have that feature. Try a Goodwill or a Salvation Army store to purchase a used Sony tape deck. Good Luck Mary.

Q: can I just press play on the tape and come back later to flip it? Then take the mp3 files and combined them?

Yes. I play the tape and rip it to a file named XXX_T1_S1. Then Flip it over and Rip it to XXX_T1_S2. I use Shchuka.com a freeware MP3 merging program to merge mp3s. I merge ripped from CDs where every track is a file and too many files overwhelm my automobile media player. In the case of tapes, I like to have one side remain as one file. I name the files so they sort in tape order and then the player just follows along from tape to tape. My automobile car player will not fast forward through the file, but only skips from one file to the next. For this reason it is nicer to have smaller chunks. Hope this helps.
