These are good, solid pencil sharpeners! I’m a teacher, and, tired of continually getting interrupted by the noise from the electric pencil sharpener, I switched to manual sharpeners instead. I’ve been through so many other brands, and most are made of plastic and, within a week or two, are dull and don’t work. The sharpener in these is metal and seems very durable, certainly better than the previous brands I’ve tried. I’ll update after school starts with how they’re holding up to frequent use.My only complaint is that the plastic container that collects the shavings is opaque, so it’s hard to know when it’s full and needs to be empty. If it were transparent or translucent, these would be perfect.

I bought this sharpener to use in my drawing class. It works well in providing sharp pencil points which do not break off. I like especially that the shavings are contained in the case. I prefer using it rather than the electric sharpeners which tend to eat up a lot of the pencil.

Wow! I love this small/compact pencil sharpener! It does a great job. I've just opened it, so I haven't sharpened many pencils yet, but so far, so good! The thing that I like best is that the top screws on and off! Leaving little room for accidental shavings spillage. Love it! I would purchase again.

I have had several of these in the past, and for a very reasonable price they did an excellent job of sharpening both standard and colored pencils. Due to Amazon's policy, even it being a prime option it is not eligible for return. They will issue you a refund if you get one that doesn't meet your standards.The one I got was a purple color and came in Staedtler paper/plastic package and so I am assuming that now all of this model, the 51163, are no longer made in Germany and are now manufactured in China as is stated plainly on the package. (I suppose it is possible that other colors are made in Germany, but I'm not going to bother trying random orders to see if I get one from Germany.)Once I was issued a refund, they basically gave it to me for free, I decided to try it out, and this one was acceptable. Compared to the red one made in Germany though, the sharpening wasn't even all around and the point kept breaking off immediately even though it appeared to be as sharp and sturdy as the result from the red one. It also didn't feel as clean while turning/shaving as the red one from Germany.It probably deserves a 3 star except that they hide the information about where it is manufactured and they switched it to China and it is not the same superior standard as before. So I'm dingeing them a star for questionable marketing/manufacturing practices.This leads me to question Staedtler overall and i will be very careful to only buy something from them if it can be verified where it is made before purchase.If anyone wants a superior quality sharpener still made in Germany and considered by some to be the world's best, try KUM sharpeners.

super easy to use, grate size for a small backpack, super sharp only took 3 loops and my pencil was pinpoint sharp!
