I cut my own hair and have upgraded from a corded model to the burgundy Wahl Magic Clip #8148, and finally to the gold one. The only reason I had to replace it was because I lost the power cord then plugged it straight into 120v and ruined it. I loved the burgundy one, but I always wanted the charging stand. I was surprised to find out that the cutting guides are a bit upgraded because they have a metal clip that holds on better. In my opinion it was worth it to get the upgraded trimmer.

Sharp and quiet. I like how if the blade can be replaced when it does get dull. I was annoyed when other clippers got dull I had to throw them out.

What can I say??? This is a very reliable clipper and this Gold and black is next level. Zero Gap and let the clipper be your detail clipper for fades and your game will change

I bought a pair of these several years ago, and after 14 months of use, they stopped holding a charge, and I could only use them when plugged in. A couple more months goes by and they stop turning on. I was irritated as I only use them for light use for my two boys haircuts at home And I probably had less than 30 cuts on them.Tossed them in the garbage because Wahl wouldn’t do anything about it.Like a dummy, I bought another pair in March of 2023. In Dec, they stopped taking a charge and won’t turn on unless plugged in. They work plugged in, but the motor is clearly going out as it surges high and low throughout the cut.I had less than 20 cuts on these clippers.I wrote Wahl as they should be under warranty and they offered to look at them, but I have to pay to ship them in and have them shipped back to me. Wall stated that if they are under warranty, then they will repair, but if they aren’t under warranty, then they would charge me for the repair. They aren’t able to tell me whether they are under warranty unless I ship them in.Honestly, it’s just a huge pain in the ass and not worth my time or any extra money spent on this crap company.I typically don’t need to learn lessons more than one time, but Wahl will never get another dollar from me. They obviously aren’t making products in a quality fashion and their customer service has a lot to be desired.My hope is that this honest review stops other people from making the same mistake I did. I truly hope this company feels the impact and loses sales. Garbage product.

I've been cutting my own hair since 2019. With what first started as a form of convenience turned into a necessity the following year due to the pandemic.With exception to about 6 months where I was maintaining a mohawk, I typically keep my hair all one length using a number 1 once a week (once ever 2 weeks if I am feeling lazy). I cut my hair in the shower using a mirror.Some of the challenges I was running into that pushed me into ordering these clippers is using clippers with a cord was becoming cumbersome. Also, my older clippers would heat up easily due to prolonged use of doing multiple passes to ensure everything was cut evenly. That is where these clippers come in.First, build quality. These clippers are a step up in build quality over my previous corded Wahl clippers. While I was expecting more weight due to being cordless and having a battery, the clippers feel pretty well balanced and easy to maneuver. The blades feel like an added improvement as well, they don't appear to get as hot as my old clippers and do a better job at cutting through my hair in fewer passes. The upgraded guard with the metal clip is a nice touch as well. My older, all plastic guards would occasionally pop loose. These stay well secured to the clippers.Being cordless has been a gamechanger for me. No longer do I need an extension cord to reach the shower and no longer do I have to shift the cord around go from one side of my head to the other. This has made it easier for me to cut my own hair as well as complete it in less time.Battery life has been great! I am usually doing a few sessions (around 20 minutes each) before I put them on the charger and they have never bogged down on me.All in all, I have been very happy with these clippers. While they are not cheap, I wanted something that I felt would last since they would get used pretty regular in my home (weekly). And as frequently as I cut my own hair, I will make up for its cost quickly in savings of not having to pay a barber/stylist.

Like most of use Wahl users, we have always used the trust worthy Corded Wahl clippers that seem to just last forever. They are a bit noisy and hum though. My Dad wanted to try these 5 star Cordless Magic Clippers. Now these are using the more modern Brushed motor, so they will be more quiet, but that brushed motor will wear out for sure. He like these cause Wahl carries ALL the parts to repair these including motor and battery right on Amazon. What I don't like these only come with a 1 year warranty???? The corded Electro Magnet versions carry a 3 year warranty. I guess Wahl already knows that their Brushed motor will wear out pretty fast, or the battery will stop charging, the 2 weak spots on this fine clipper. He is still happy with this new upgrade.
