Kingdom: Season 1 (2007)

This is "Kingdom" with Stephen Fry -- not "Kingdom" with Frank Gillo
Buyer beware -- make sure you are buying the series you think you are buying. Some of the reviews here are for the wrong series. This series is the one made in UK starring Stephen Fry as a small town lawyer with a big-time law degree. It has nothing to do with boxing or MMA (which means Mixed Martial Arts, I think).Steven Fry's character, Peter Kingdom, is a gentle giant with a soft heart and a good grasp of human nature and the law. Many interesting and zany characters appear in the various episodes, including a gigolo, a nudist colony, a sex shop, gypsies, druggies, mobsters, and alien hunters. Kingdom has a way of handling most disputes in a way that gets to the bottom of the issue rather than just prevailing in court. There are good guys and bad guys, but the worst "character" that keeps popping up is the dreaded Council. You see, in Britain city councils seem to have virtually unlimited power to run roughshod over the citizens, at least until Peter Kingdom and his young assistant, Lyle, get involved. Throw in a loyal secretary and a loony sister, and you have a fun crowd to watch. My wife and I have enjoyed many episodes in this series over and over. I think you will, too.

Stephen Fry is excellent as always
Here in America, we often only get a glimpse of the excellent British tv series' when they are shown on PBS. For some unexplained reason, BBC America does not show them, except for (thankfully) Doctor Who & David Attenborough nature programs. So when I learn of a show that not only have I not seen, or which has such an excellent cast of people nearer my own age (which is not a teen) , & especially if it has Stephen Fry, I am happy to purchase it. This series is very interesting with marvelous characters and story lines. And the guest stars are fabulous!

Sweet and humorous.
Excellent series. Full of character. Sweet and humorous. Unfortunately series 2 and 3 r only available used. I've learned to mistrust self described used conditions on Amazon. Few new ones at highway robbery prices!

Wonderful gem of a Series
Had never heard anything about this series and took a chance as it had Stephen Fry and was filmed close to my former home in Norfolk. Absolutely wonderful ! An old school piece of great television great writing, good plot line, good acting and to cap it all beautiful scenery. Highly recommend and cannot wait to watch the rest of the Seasons. Lose yourself in the characters and setting and you wont regret a moment.

Kingdom: Season 1
We already have Season 2 and 3 and really enjoyed these seasons. I know we will enjoy Season 1 and have been waiting for it to come out for quite some time. Now we will watch them in order beginning with Season 1 and working out way to Seasdon 3. Very well done series, very enjoyable. Have also enjoyed Stephen Fry in "Bones" as Agent Booth's Psychiatrist.

Superbly entertaining!!!
This series is a delight to watch. The cast, headed by Stephen Fry, includes odd ball characters which makes for much humor and pathos.

Defective recording
I bought this last month and just started watching it tonight. Had I watched it last night I would have realized the recording was defective and been able to return it. Now I'm stuck with it. I'm still on the first DVD, but the first two episodes contain very jerky motion whenever the camera pans or people move about. It is quite distracting. The story lines are okay, but the main character's sister is competing with the dog for the female canine of the year award. Hopefully they'll either get rid of her or change her behavior because so far she has no redeeming qualities and numerous bad ones. She's almost as distracting as the choppy video.

Fry is simply the best!
I'm a fan of Fry since his days in BlackAdder....But this series prove he can't lead on his own perfectly.

Delightfully British
This series has thoroughly enjoyable characters. Crazy sister, "denmother -like" main character who keeps the community going. Mercifully, no car chases or gun play found but Kingdom's Alvis is true eye candy. The townsfolk are eccentric and we were left entertained after each episode.
