Don’t let this book get your knickers in a twist

This is a good book for recipes but I found the tone of the advice poor. The writer basically puts the fear of god in you if you don’t wean early by banging on about how your baby won’t have enough iron and you’ll have to rush to three meals a day within 2 weeks of weaning so they don’t become malnourished. The WHO advises waiting until baby is 6 months - not before or after. You can wean early but there is evidence that early weaning can be detrimental if baby has intolerances which she mentions nothing about. And here’s the other thing; try as you might to get little Chardonnay to eat broccoli and cauliflower purée or cod cakes in order to provide good vitamins and proteins etc. she might not open her little mouth! So by all means use the book for recipes but don’t get stressed out if your weaning doesn’t go to Annabels plan. She missed the slogan “Food before one is just for fun” - when you have banana goo flung in your hair and are removing oats from tiny nostrils you will need a sense of humour and to remind yourself that even though Billy has eaten only a fingertips worth of food that has taken one of your precious evenings to prepare, it’s all okay - he won’t die of malnutrition, it’s enough that he touches, smushes and smells the food, and you are still a super mum.

Very informative book, but some advice did not work for my baby

Contains very useful information, in addition to recipies. I like that this is one of few books supporting a combination of spoon feeding and BLW, leaving the choice up to what works for parent and baby. The only regret I have is following the advice in this book to ramp up solids quickly at 6 months. I understand baby needs certain nutrients now, but it went against all other advice I received which was to introduce solids slowly and one food at a time. As a result, my baby had terrible constipation leading to a chafed and bleeding bottom. She was in so much pain when straining. She has since gone off solids completely (not interested, also got ill so probably due to that), and a week of BF only has restored things to normal. I will now, once she is interested to eat again, very slowly start her back on solids. Maybe this is just my baby, but I would advice caution.

Wouldn't recommend for BLW

I bought this book as I was starting to wean my daughter. I wanted to take a baby led approach and although this book advises how to do that I've found better - this advises you to start on purees no matter what which is not a true baby led approach. The recipes sound great but they are not straight forward or quick, which when you have a baby is really important.Overall, I wouldn't recommend the book.

Disappointing - can find all info online!

I bought this book as I wanted one source of info to complete the task of weaning but ended up ploughing through internet searches...I expected it to be a FULL course to weaning - in terms of recipes as well as info on textures etc. The book does cover this but not in great depth. It all made sense when you visit Anna karmel website as she wants to sell you the online course for all of this!Covers - basics on when to wean/ how / whyMissed - adequate range of recipes - there’s a separate book for this of course!!- lacks info on textures after pureeing- limited recipes - most in 6-9m are variations of a croquette

Good purchase

Good book, I believe it has all the relevant information. It talks about traditional and baby lead weaning (with much more info for the traditional method). I decided to go with BLW and still refer to this book when I'm unsure about somethingI did have to read extra about safety around BLW though (for example difference between gagging and chocking)
