How many square feet is this unit designed for?

I was interested in this air purifier until I did the calculations of 1200 feet with 1X ACH (air change/hr) and assuming standard 8 ft ceilings.  This equals a CADR of only 160 cfm (cubic feet per minute).  And if you change the units to meters this is equal to 272 cmh (cubic meters per hour).  This is quite low.  A rule of thumb for allergy sufferers would be a minimum of 4X ACH which would make this unit only suitable for a 300 square foot room.  To give further perspective, if you had a 1200 sq ft room and wanted 4X ACH you would need a CADR of 640 cfm, which I believe exceeds the limitations of the testing.  You won't find air purifiers with a CADR this high.  However, CADR examples of large room air purifiers do include: Medify 112 Avg CADR = 433 cfm, Sharp FX-J80UW Avg CADR = 340 cfm, IQ Air Healthpro Avg CADR = 300 cfm, Blueair 211 Avg CADR = 350 cfm, and Oransi EJ120 Avg CADR = 341 cfm.  This is their rating at their highest speed if you can handle the noise!

Where can you buy the replacement filters?

I, too, noticed that no filters were available. I've kept the Shark part replacement website open and noticed today that they had replacement filters available, so I ordered two (we have two units) today, for $100 each. The air filter says to replace every 6 months, so I figured I'm good until next August.

How does this work on the smell in a teen boy’s room?

I have this in my classroom. It will clear the air of the smell of a student spraying cologne in under 5 minutes. I do not notice any body odor smell, and I teach sweaty middle school kiddos going through puberty.

Why does it says 100% clean air even though it was just turned on out of the box?

It will say 100% until you give it a chance to actually measure the air quality. Why they didn’t program it to read “—-%” until it measures is beyond me. But it measures fairly quickly.

I have it in my classroom and I shut it off each afternoon before I leave. One morning when I got to work I noticed that district maintenance had been working on the HVAC in my ceiling and knocked down a bunch of debris. I turned the unit on and it went from 100% to 83% immediately, then it was back up to 100% in about 10 minutes. When the custodian came in to vacuum it dropped again and it took about 5 minutes to clean the air again.

It works great!

You can set it to “auto” and it will run in the lowest mode until the air quality drops below 90%. Then it adjusts to medium or high depending on the dirtiness of the air.

There is also a filter life that you can check and it will tell you approximately how many hours you have remaining with that filter. Six months is an average as one filter lasted me a full school year, only having it on when I was at work, which we all know is far more than a mere 40 hours per week.
