X-Men by Jed MacKay Vol. 1: Homecoming

Best of the new big 3
The Krakoa era is (finally over) and they seem to have split the book into three: the politics, the battling against a government backed organisation and the... weird stuff.Luckily this book encompasses the first part. It's really great to see Scott leading his team, winning over a local community and mobilising strike teams to defend his people- it reminds me of a mixture of the good old Utopia days and some of Bendis's run. Within the cast itself Scott, Hank and Magneto -now Max again, who can keep up?- are standouts; it's cool having the Psylocke and Magik in prominent roles. There is also Temper (who I vaguely recognise but is a bit of random inclusion when you think which X-Men are currently unused) and Juggernaut is there for comic relief. The entire cast talks about waiting for Quentin Quire to die and I share that sentiment. Why is he there? The art is awesome throughout, although the styles don't always mesh from issue to issue but it's always great.Of the debut volumes of the three main X books, this is the best.

New mutants
An okay start to the new X-MEN series. I have yo say most of my favourite X-MEN and in the Uncanny version, but Psylock/Kwannon and Magik made this book worthwhile for me.A lot has happened. Krakoa has fallen, mutants are hated and feared even more than before, and Cyclops has assembled a team that would resemble X-Force more than the usual X-MEN. What has forced Scott Summers to this path? This book provides some answers but not many. There are a lot of characters and their motivation to get through this series. There are plenty of fights to keep the book interesting. This book is more opening the box than setting up the pieces. I am hoping there is a lot more to come in this book. I have faith in Jeb Mackey. The book finishes with a varient covers gallery.
