Great lock with slightly challenging set up
2 years ago I decided to buy a smart lock for our front door. After everyone expressed their dislike for the smart lock that I chose I decided to look for a new one. My requirements were few but easy enough to fullfill. My kids and husband hated always having to connect to an app to open our front door so I wanted something that was easy to use and didn’t depend on a finicky app. We also wanted a smart lock that actually locked the door, our old one wasn’t even doing that correctly. When I came across the Yale Assure Lock and it met all of my requirements I decided to give it a try.As soon as the lock arrived my son and I got to work removing the old smart lock and replacing it with the Yale Assure Lock. The lock comes with detailed instructions and multiple tools to help with installation. While I wish that I could say installation was a breeze and took no time at all, sadly it did not. My son and I got caught up in a few places, with all of the steps needed to install the lock a certain way depending on your door. At some points the pieces just weren’t fitting together right or as pictured and it required a little problem solving but we did eventually get it installed.I have a teenager and a grade schooler so I love the ease of assigning each of their own specific code to unlock the door. When anyone unlocks the door I receive a notification on my phone showing who has unlocked the door. This is great for keeping tabs on my kids. I also love that I can assign a recurring code with a limited access time for our housekeepers. I no longer have to make sure that I am home to unlock and lock the door when they are here. The app also gives the homeowner the ability to check the status of the door. If it is green the door is locked and if it is red it is unlocked. If you want it to be locked or unlocked you can also control it via the app. The Yale Assure Lock also offers a feature that unlocks/locks the lock based on your phones location. So many times I have arrived home with my arms full and love that my front door is already unlocked for me.My family has been using this lock for well over a month now and it is lightyears better than our previous lock. Besides a slightly difficult installation, my app does occasionally say that door has been left open when it is closed. I will troubleshoot that and report back with any changes. Overall I am very impressed with the Yale Assure Lock. I love that it is so easy to use and that we are able to assign different codes to each family member, friend or even our housekeepers. This lock is amazing and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quality smart lock for their home.My Rating Scale⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - outstanding and I would highly recommend this product⭐⭐⭐⭐ - exceeds expectations but there were a couple small issues⭐⭐⭐ - meets expectations but there were a few issues⭐⭐ - needs improvement⭐ - unacceptable and I would not recommend this productThis product was provided to me at a or no cost in exchange for my honest review

Buy it!
Fantastic product. We had a slight issue with installation, called the tech number and had it fixed in 5 minutes. Easy to use and love that we can change the code.

Not WiFi capable.
Description is misleading. Says it connects with WiFi. However package does not contain WiFi module and unit will not connect to WiFi.

No more worrying about not having keys
The technical set up of this lock set was a bit more difficult than I had hoped. But this is also the first time I've ever installed an auto lock myself, so I'm sure there is a learning curve. Other than that, this has made life so very convenient. I no longer have to worry about knowing where my keys are when I leave the house, its that simple.

Nice lock if you don't need HomeKey
This is another variant in the myriad versions of the Yale Assure Lock 2. This particular variant offers the PIN lock pad, an optional fingerprint reader, and a backup key cylinder to manually operate the lock; this makes it a little less secure than the versions without the key cylinder, but it also makes it much safer in case the lock jams or runs out of power in case there isn't a second way into your home. It supports Apple HomeKit, but not HomeKey - so you can lock/unlock the door from the HomeKit app, but you can't tap your phone to it to unlock the door like with other variants of the Assure Lock. The other difference between this and other variants is how it connects to Wi-Fi. Previous versions of the lock have used the Wi-Fi module which slots into a slot internal to the lock and which doesn't require an external gateway. That's convenient, but apparently it doesn't support third party integrations with Alexa or other voice assistants. This version of the kit remedies that by offering a plug-in gateway. The listing advertises this is better for vacation rental hosts, so it's possible the plug-in gateway also enables more direct AirBnB integrations? I don't host a vacation rental, so I can't comment on that bit; the Yale app does support manually creating temporary codes for all versions of the lock, though, so as long as you have Wi-Fi support you can grant someone temporary access to your home from anywhere over the Internet.Installation of these is great - substantially better than installing the competing Level lock, which involved whittling down my door. The process is very similar for all of the various variants, and the app helpfully walks you through the various steps. Unlike other locks like the Level, this should fit your existing door and doorframe without any modification as its size and shape exactly matches most existing lock sets. The app is.. not bad! It's pretty intuitive to update the lock codes, and you can easily set up recurring limited access, auto lock features and such. I much prefer the convenience of the HomeKit enabled version, because I can simply tap my phone to the lock for secure opening through NFC, but PIN codes aren't too bad to use.I really like that the touchscreen is obscured by default - I was worried this would look ostentatiously electronic from the street, but the dark appearance by default really blends in.I think the Assure 2 is probably the best all-around smart lock available right now, but there are a lot of decisions to be made when shopping. If you get a better sense for what your goals are, the choice may become clearer. For the easiest unlock and most security, you probably want the HomeKit "Plus" version without the lock cylinder. For a lock with a key backup with the ability to integrate with third party cloud services and remote access, this version's the one you want. And if you don't need out-of-home connectivity at all, there's an entry level Assure Lock 2 with only Bluetooth connectivity you could consider as well at a reduced price.
