This product came new in sealed plastic bag. The plastic case itself had a very odd smell, sort of like cat urine. I had to wipe down the case with a lysol wipe several times and that finally got rid of the smell. As far as the case goes--it is durable. The case is designed so that the on button is on the users left. But when you go to prop it up, you have to turn is upside down. I probably just need to get used to the new case, but it seems awkward. On the good side--it is incredibly sturdy and will protect your iPad which is what I wanted.
