Great for running

I bought this product for the sole purpose of letting me run outside in the winter weather. I live in Utah so during the winter the roads are blanketed with snow and ice for most of winter. Although I'll use a treadmill if i have to, I prefer running outside. Now I admit I am writing this review after just one run in these, but I was so pleased I figured I better write a review now while I'm motivated since I rarely write reviews on Amazon.I ran 8 miles in these over mostly snow and ice. Over the snow and ice, I didn't slip it all. There were also patches of dry road. Over the dry road, it really didn't make much of a noise. Now over the snow and ice, the Yaktrax are hardly noticeable. On dry road, however, it was noticeable, but barely noticeable and it didn't throw off my gait at all.Ultimately, if you are looking for some traction cleats for running in the winter weather, I'd definitely recommend this product. Like I said, I've only ran once in them so far, so well still see about the durability. But after my run, it still looked brand new. If these break anytime soon, I'll be sure to come update this review. If I don't, then take it as a sign this product is durable too. Heck, if these just last me only one winter, I'd gladly throw down just $25 each winter so I can keep running outside in the winter!

Great balance of design, comfort and quality.

I live in the New England area (United States) and winter weather here creates every kind of treacherous footing you can imagine. I bought the Yaktrax Pro and keep them in my truck ... I slip them one when I'm carrying my daughter across an icy parking lot into daycare, clearing the driveway or any other time mother natures decides to make her presence known.I've found these are easy enough to get on ... but are still tough enough that they fit your shoe quite snug (I bought the large for a size 10.5 US men's shoe). I've never had them slip off or even felt them shift on me.The traction they provide is considerably better than what you'd get in icy conditions with bare shoe, however I will not go so far as to say they dont slip at all. You shouldn't expect to have absolutely solid footing like you were standing on dry pavement. You'd have to go to a much heavier set of cleats with actual spikes to achieve that. I would venture to say that you will not find any sort of heavier spiked cleat like that which is as east to put on and as portable as what you get with the Yaktrax.I have already recommended these to friends who have ordered them and have been very pleased as well.

Highly overrated

These didn't even last one winter. The rubber straps broke, and the metal coils disintegrated. They are definitely not worth the price.I also bought these for my son last Christmas, and he threw them in the trash yesterday, because his had also fallen apart, and were useless.I do NOT recommend this item.

Like studded snow tires for your feet

Got these for my dad for Christmas. I told him to put them on an old pair of outdoor shoes that he could leave them on for the winter (they can be a little challenging to get on and off shoes)He lives in a place where ice is just as much a problem as snow, and I was scared he would fall on his way to the mailbox or out to get the paper. He thought they were a little (a lot!) weird and fussed about putting them on. THEN he tried them and was sold. He could not believe how much traction they provide - even in very slippery conditions. They are little strange to get used to wearing. The coil structure that gives you grip feels a little weird underfoot. But you really do forget that pretty quickly. I got the "pro" version because it had a strap that goes around your instep to keep them firmly in place. The non-pro version just stretches to fit over the bottom of your shoes. I have (and love) the non-pro version, but thought the strap would help my dad get them on and off.A BIG hit with him. Great product.

You Should.....No.....You MUST Buy This Product

If you live in an area where snow and ice are found, then you MUST have this product. I didn't get a chance to give it the FULL test, but what I did find is this. It was as if the snow & ice were not there at all. We had about a 2 hour period of Freezing Rain. If you've ever experienced that, then you know that it produces what is called Glaze Ice (also known as Black Ice). It's the most slippery thing nature makes.I was not able to go out immediately after the freezing rain left the Glaze, but within a hour or two after sleet & snow began to cover it, I DID walk on it, just to test it out. It worked just exactly as advertized & as many people "reviewed" it. One time I fell (I'm 67 years old) on the ice and I did NOT want to ever do that again! I had complete traction! Bear in mind though. That was after some sleet & snow fell on the glaze ice.How it would have done on the glaze ice by itself, I don't honestly know. I was just too afraid to find out. But with just a very fine coating of sleet & snow, it did better than I actually expected. The next time I have pure glaze ice, with nothing on top of it, I'll probably have enough faith in the product to at least try it. Here in Oklahoma in the winter time, I'll probably get that chance. When & if that happens, I'll send you a report. One word of caution though. Once you get inside TAKE THEM OFF! You WILL SLIP on tile covered concrete, or any surface which is covered with tile. Remember...TAKE THEM OFF INSIDE! That's a fair warning! But for outside in the elements, YOU'D BETTER HAVE THEM DURING SNOW OR ICE!BUY THIS PRODUCT! I REPEAT...BUY THIS PRODUCT! It'll be the best investment you ever made for winter weather. Now I know it doesn't have "SPIKES" as someone told me it should have, but thanks to the design (360 degree protection), and the fact that it covers more surface area, it works just fine. Like I said though...I haven't actually tried it on "black" (or what is called "glaze") ice, with nothing on top of it.I really do think it will work on that surface though! I really do, and the next time, in spite of worrying about a broken hip, I'm going to try it then. But please don't forget this though: TAKE THEM OFF INSIDE! Toney
