Perfect dual purpose meter, replaces old analog
If manufacterer made similar double purpose meters, I would deck my control panel with these meters, perfect replacement for old analog meter slots. The sensor lead was not long enough for my application, solved by soldering on another length. The sensor wire as is provided is susceptable to outside noise sources, which will give you inaccurate RPM readings. Adding coax grounded shield wire will help, rerouting wire near low noise levels will also help. Initially my wire was routed too close to the ignition coil and resulted in double RPMs. I repurposed TV cable coax, grounding the shield (coax/cable) wire for most of the routing. (Might help for high RPM interference too). The sensor wire isn’t special, any wire can replace/suplement. I used coated copper wire (commonly found in transformers) to extend sensor, and made the 5-7 sparkplug wire wrapping easy as the copper holds tight to wire insulation. If the spark plug coil affects the spark, add an insulation layer before wrapping 5-7 wrap coil. I learned through this that induction sensing doesn’t need the induction clamp like seen in amp meters. Just a tight 5-7 wrapping coil worked great. I noticed the coil terminates on the sparkplug end, begins on the distributor end.The light comes on when the inductive sensor indicates engine is running. After engine stops, the light remains on for a short interval. The light goes off while the external 12v battery power remains connected, conserving source battery voltage, and continues to power the memory, saving the internal CR2032 battery for longer life.Wiring: 3 wires get the basic setup.(-) Black ground, and configuration. Negative (black) wire goes to chassis ground, battery (-). Also jumpers on the black wire set configuration for engine types sparks per revolution.(+) Red positive. Connect to 12 Vdc battery, or 24/7 12v power source, should always be on to maintain memory. Uses very little power in this memory mode.(S) Sensor wire routed to sparkplug wire, wrapped 5-7 times in a tight coil, as seen in the included instructions. I recommend using grounded shield wire for most of the routing to avoid unwanted signals affecting the RPM readings.

Great unit, but very poor LCD display
I purchased for my gas powered golf cart so could watch RPM's so I don't over speed engine. I got it to work just fine and was accurate and all, BUT, as some other reviews stated, the LCD display is super messed up! The read angle is terrible! You can't even see the the numbers unless you look at it straight on or from below the gauge! The only way I could sit on the cart and see the display is if I actually turned the gauge upside down! Couldn't handle that and sent back. Too bad.

Numbers looked great until I hooked the battery leads up to a 12v battery on my mower...
The display looked great out of the box running on some kind of internal battery. When I got it hooked up to the mower and started the mower the display did not change, I found out the red battery wire had slightly backed out of the connector, once I pressed it back it and started the mower again it lit up and the segments of the digits were all different intensities. some were really dark, some were light. My first thought was that this was the angle I was at, but before I powered it up it looked great. It is very hard to read when operating, but does display. When you shut the mower off (now running off internal battery?) the display fades almost completely out. I am going to request a replacement and see how that one goes, if it is better I will update this review. It did not improve much.

Doesn't work properly for me.
Accidentally purchased two of these by mistake. Glad I did. The first one I got out of the box was DOA (dead on arrival). I have started a return for that. I installed the second unit and it worked.... somewhat. The hour meter functioned properly and so did the back light. However, it looses three stars because the Tachometer feature doesn't work properly. First of all, the meter can be configured for various engine types. It's all dependent on grounding the proper pin. I am installing this on a 4stroke, single cylinder Briggs & Stratton. Wired the pins up for the 4 stoke single cylinder configuration. When the engine is started, and with the RPM low, the gauge reads a high RPM. As I advance the throttle, the displayed RPM reduces. So, I re-read the directions and it states that some 4 stroke, single cylinder engines need to be configured a different way, so I wired it is that way with no better outcome. I will probably be returning this one too. I am only giving this item a two star review because the hourmeter does work properly and it does look nice.

Indictive Tach
This is 'almost' an excellent inductive tach. It is easy to mount if you have access to hole saws and a file. The wiring is straight forward. It is accurate when compared to another known accurate one. Having the running time is kinda nice but my interest was in a quality 'inductive' tach for my SxS. IF this had a much more bright back light, I would really like it. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

Very simple to install.
This replaced an hour meter so the wiring was already in place. All i had to do was run coax to the plug wire. It's a two cylinder four stroke engine, so only need to wrap one plug wire. Reads in 10 r/m increments, but it works for my purpose. We'll see how long the battery lasts, and I'm hoping I don't have to replace the whole unit every year. The jury is still out on that.

Tach accuracy is questionable, but great value
I mostly wanted a reliable hour meter, the tach and light is a bonus.I’m pretty sure I have the tach on the right setting (single cylinder waste spark), but it only appears to be accurate at low speeds. The idle seems right, but there’s no way my riding mower is spinner to 6500rpm peaks. I think the reading gets messed up when I engage the clutch. For the money, this is a great buy. Just keep expectations reasonable.

Typical Chinese
The unit seems to be ok quality wise but time will tell. The gauge is very hard to read when it's below eye level. The directions are somewhat hard to understand in the Chinese version of English. The instructions themself are not easily understood. But I did get it to work. I doubt the accuracy is there but it's not that important.
