Simply excellent.
I have been searching for a good easy to read book about herbs used in magic for some time. I am so very glad I got this book. As usual for (the late) Scott Cunningham, its a well written, easy to understand and well documented. Everything is listed and easy to find....divided up into gender, planetary, intentions....absolutely perfect. The pictures are line drawings..in black and white but are accurate and easy to identify (you could always get a photographic reference herb book to double check identity). There is not a vast amount of detail for each herb, but enough to guide you to choosing the right herb for your spell.Whilst many scoff at the idea of using herbs for spells....remember they have been used for centuries, as Mr Cunningham reminds us. Common sense must still be used....and as some other critique said My Cunningham suggests a bag of herbs protect your house better than an alarm....he doesn't, but adding a little extra magical herb cant go wrong if that is your belief!I highly recommend this book...for beginners or the more experienced like myself. I know I shall be using this reference book for years to come.Encyclopaedia of Magical Herbs (Llewellyn's Sourcebook Series)

Mind your own craft, Cunningham
A Wiccan book, which you can tell straight away from the first few pages without knowing anything about Cunningham. In the introduction sections, there is a clear dislike for witches who don't follow a 'pure' path (I mean people who do curse/hex, or any other magic considered "dark"). Cunningham uses borderline scare-tactics when talking about this e.g. "When one embarks down a dark path of negativity, the suffering this causes others spills into the Magician's life until, in the end, he or she is utterly destroyed." I found this pretty laughable and would like to remind this type of Wiccan to mind your own craft. However, if you're willing to overlook this, it's still a pretty great book for herbs and their correspondences. It also a lot of decent information, nice art work, and it's pretty easy to navigate.

A must have!
A great book by the legendary Scott Cunningham who's easy going writing style has made it easy for most of us to read his books and this is certainly no exception, read, enjoy and learn! This is probably the best encyclopedia on the magical value of herbs and what their attributes are, it is not a 'how too' book but is a real mine of information & a must for any one studying any elements of the craft even if not really into the herbal side of things, if there is one 'must have' book on herbs, this would be it!I have used it in conjunction with other more medicinal based herb books and I would recommend anyone who is interested in herbs for magic to also read up on the medicinal values of herbs too, they both go hand in hand really, especially for the crafty hedgewitches out there!
