Good sized cat flap
I have two fairly large cats (7kg each) and my previous cat flap was a bit of a tight squeeze for them and eventually the lock (different make) failed which meant other cats could get in.This flap is constructed in much the same way as all cat flaps and has a microchip function so that you can program the flap to recognise your cats and nobody else's. Programming is very simple - just push the button for 5 seconds till it flashes, get your cat to go through it - you will hear the lock click down when it recognises a chip - and then push the button again and your cat is coded into its memory. It is not totally straightforward to instal in a wall which I had to do as you do have to cut a hole through fairly accurately before fitting it. The instruction booklet is not great and useless as regards wall/glass fitting but I found a video clip on You Tube for a different make which pretty much showed what you needed to do. For a wall fitting you will also need one or more extender pieces depending on how thick your wall is and whether it is a cavity wall. Again YouTube comes to the rescue to show you how to add these in. Once fitted - and do use all the screws provided to keep it all together, it works really well and I recommend putting sealant around the edges on the outside piece.

Simple to fit/program
So far so good. We have six cats registered to this device. Working with zero concerns so far. Easy to fit, simple to program for the cats. Looks sturdy and well manufactured. An easy 5 stars.

Easy-to-setup protection against unwanted guests
I bought this cat flap as an upgrade for another variant of a Cat Mate cat flap that I had installed a good couple of years ago (Cat Mate Rotary 4-Way Locking Cat Flap). While I had no issues with the old cat flap, my cat did, as local cats kept coming all the time for his food, and a couple of them behaved quite hostile to him. Taking back control of the borders was my main reason to start looking for a microchip-operated cat flap.I chose this model as I was hoping to get away with a quick in-place upgrade of my old Cat Mate. This idea worked: Cat Mate 360W can be easily installed in the place of the basic Cat Mate cat flap. I only needed to unscrew the old fascia and replace it with the new one, which fits nicely into the existing holes. The only architectural difference is that the microchip-driven version has a slightly longer "tunnel" which protrudes from the outer side of the door and slightly changes the user experience for the cat - my cat had to learn to open the new cat flap with his paw rather than his forehead when coming in, but he got used to the new way of navigating the cat flap quite quickly.Teaching the cat flap to recognise the cat's microchip was a no-brainer and fun. The new cat flap is a bit noisy as it produces a noticeable click when the microchip activates the lock, but that is hardly an issue for my cat (though I and my wife did jump for a good few days each time he came in until we got used to the sound of it).We have been using the cat flap for two weeks now. Our cat is fully confident with his new door. We got used to the sound of it and no longer overreact. We have not seen any of our intruders since the day the cat flap was installed, which suggests that it does its job in keeping them away well.My only concern for now is that the cat flap defaults to "fail secure" behaviour when the batteries run out of charge. It would be great if it was possible to switch it to "fail safe" or at least "fail secure both ways", as we go away from time to time and locking our own cat out during those times is not something we would want to experience. Otherwise, a good easy-to-install product that does its job.

doesn't last
This is the second of these I have bought, and I also had to install the tunnel due to the depth of the door it was installed in. I don't know who is finding it easy because i find it a right pain to install. My cat uses this with a tag on her collar - which is huge for some reason - but her chip doesn't get read properly by the flap. The first one, after 2 years, decided to stop working. Fresh batteries, full clean, resetting - nothing worked. It wouldn't read her old tag, I got a new tag and it wouldn't read that either. It wouldn't do anything. So I bought a new one. This one, less than a year on, has also decided to stop functioning. New batteries, full clean, full reset etc. and it still won't work. Instead of being completely dead this time, there's a slow clunk inside the flap I can hear when the tag comes near - so something is happening somewhere. However, it doesn't actually open the flap. And the customer service for this brand doesn't exist.Edit: this is now my THIRD flap and this has also died on me. Same issue as the second one, except the flap is permanently open now (the latch is stuck halfway down somehow), allowing everyones cat to come into the house. New batteries, clean, full reset and all I can hear is a faint sad little clonk as SOMETHING happens SOMEWHERE in the cat flap, but not where it actually matters. I can't even install a different one because of the different dimensions. If and when it works it's great. But it doesn't last. Presumably this is designed to be used outside but it doesn't seem able to handle weather - we have one cat that rarely goes outside and this thing is dead within 2 years.

give your cat time to get used to it.
very pleased, it works well, i had to leave it in unlocked condition for a few days until she was used to coming and going, but now when locked she is quite happy with it, success keeping strays out.
