Brilliant!

Great piece of gear! Pop the kick panel off. Use needle nose locking pliers to keep the cable pulled out. I used a Dremel to cut off the old plastic. The cable underneath is more of a rod. It is flared where the new part attaches. I put the new part on and used a fine marker to mark the depth. Then I took it off, held it next to the rod aligning the end with my mark and marked the 2 holes. I used a 1/16th bit to dimple the rod and the made it a bit bigger with a 3/32nd bit. The dimple spot worked perfectly for the new set screws. Attach the piece and then reattach the kick plate. Good as new!

Ignore the fitment reviews

This is for 90s hondas, your eg, ek, crv it will fit. All these people leaving a bad review and complaining that you have to remove the plastic left on the cable.....OH REALLY? Good job Einstein you have to remove the BROKEN PART to put the GOOD PART. yall would leave a bad review for a perfectly good engine just because you had to remove yours with a hole in the block to put it in. Moral of the story is this part works. It's easy to put on. I removed the broken plastic with a pair of pliers in 2 minutes.

Fast fix. Even an upgrade

My factory oem one simply broke. I could still open the hood of my prized 2008 Honda Element but when I went in search of a replacement this one popped up. I needed to cut the existing plastic shaft off with a saw blade. I used a bi metal 6” reciprocating saw blade that I put some tape on to act as a handle. Once the old broken shaft was removed I used needle nose vice grips to hold the cable out as far as possible and slipped the new metal one on tightened up the locking screws with the included torx key and if works better than original. Plus I like the different colors it comes in. I really like the anodized red finish as it looks great in the car/van/camper/compact element.

Work involved to make this item usable....

You will need tot trim ALL the plastic off of the end where this handle goes. If you have to remove the kick panel and remove the cable from the in side to do so, then why not just install a new cable? Well, because these Honda cables are notorious for breaking at the handle anyway....even the Dorman or other replacements. Best to use a Dremel tool with a sanding disk to remove the plastic. Try and notch a small area so that the set screws will set recessed slightly. The set screws are pretty cheap and the heads stripped out when tightening. Cheaper than a new cable and looks better too. Just wish the hole was larger to fit over the plastic.
