La Crosse Technology314-519 Digital Window Battery Operated Thermometer with Daily Records

First, nobody is paying me to write this review. This is an excellent upgraded design to the previous model. These are intended to be mounted on the outside of a window; in other words, they are outside thermometers that display the outside temperature to the person on the inside of the window. This model has a translucent backing on the outside, unlike the previous model, which was clear. This makes reading the temperature easier. It has a LARGE, easy-to-read current outside air temperature display as well as two displays below it that show the 24-hour high/low temperatures.Keeping in mind that this thermometer exists entirely outside, it has a well-sealed battery compartment with a gasket around the access door and a small Phillips screw to secure it closed. The screw really can't be any bigger than it is because of the design. A small set of eyeglass (or jeweler's) screwdrivers should be fine to use. Although the screw is a Phillips (+) head, a properly sized flat blade screwdriver will work as well. A small dab of Vaseline or other grease may help with any screw corrosion due to the elements. I would strongly recommend using Energizer AAA Lithium batteries because they're 100% leakproof (protecting your investment against corrosion) and they have a long life. Finally, I would suggest placing the thermometer on a shaded window to eliminate incorrect readings due to solar radiation.I've written a lot about this little device, but I hope it helps you. I've found it to be accurate (compared to other closely placed thermometers) and should give you years of service if you just give it a little TLC like I've outlined above.

It is easy to read and shows the 12 hour low and high plus the current temp. Easy to read and has stuck securely to my window for a month. If the adhesive fails once the temps get hot I will use a double sided gel tape which holds great as well. This uses a AAA battery which is not provided.

Loved it in the window or on glass door . Lights up easy to see perfect in small places too.

Smaller than the previous thermometer. Doesn't have a separate mounting bracket like the previous model. Because that mounting bracket is still securely attached to the window, I used the top portion of the old thermometer, attaching this new model to it with sticky Velcro so that I can use the old mounting bracket. The screw securing the battery cover is tiny (smaller than the previous model). I had to use the Phillips screw driver I have that's designed for using on eye glasses frames. Temp. recordings are consistent with the outdoor alcohol thermometer so far. Both are mounted in the year-round shade provided by the roof's overhang. The old model only functioned for 1-1/2 years. Maybe this "new-and -improved" model will last longer?

My second purchase, first one still working. It needs to be mounted eye level or even above to see the numbers clearly. The battery lasts a long time, but the battery compartment has a tiny phillips head screw that is hard to loosen. Work very carefully to avoid stripping the head of the screw.

I have tried two of these due to the good reviews. Both units read @ 12 - 15 degrees to hot in a deep freezer.After the second return, the replace option was removed to refund only.So they know... (It won't work and gave up trying to sell me one that did?)"Here's your money back go away".. lol
